Peter Snijders

Petrus "Peter" Henricus Cornelis Snijders (born September 14, 1943 in Eindhoven ) is a former Dutch judoka . He was European champion in 1966 in the middleweight division, the weight class up to 80 kilograms, and in 1969 in the light heavyweight division, the weight class up to 93 kilograms.

Career

The 1.82 m tall Peter Snijders initially competed in the weight class up to 80 kilograms. He won a bronze medal at the European Championships in 1964 and was Dutch champion for the first time in 1964. At the Olympic premiere of judo in Tokyo in 1964 , he won his preliminary group. In the quarter-finals he was eliminated by the German Wolfgang Hofmann and thus finished fifth.

At the Judo World Championships in Rio de Janeiro in 1965 , Snijders won a bronze medal in the open class. In 1966 Snijders won his second Dutch championship title. At the European Championships in 1966 he won the final against Vladimir Pokatajew from the Soviet Union. In 1967 he switched to the weight class up to 93 kilograms and won his third Dutch championship title. At the European Championships in 1969, he again won the final against Pokatajew. At the European Championships in 1971 Peter again won bronze in the light heavyweight division.

Peter Snijders is the twin brother of Jan Snijders .
