The Netherlands took part in the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo, Japan with a delegation of eleven athletes, five men and six women.

It was the ninth time the Netherlands had taken part in the Winter Olympics since 1928 .

Flag bearer

The speed skater Atje Keulen-Deelstra carried the flag of the Netherlands during the opening ceremony in the Makomanai Stadium .

Medals

With four won gold, three silver and two bronze medals the Dutch team finished 4th in the medal count .
