Romania took part in the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo, Japan with a delegation of 13 athletes.

It was Romania's ninth participation in the Winter Olympics since 1928 .

Flag bearer

Bobsleigh rider Ion Panțuru carried the Romanian flag during the opening ceremony at Makomanai Stadium .
