Vietnam's NOK , the Vietnam Olympic Committee , was founded in 1976 and recognized by the IOC three years later . Vietnam has been taking part in the Summer Olympics since 1980 and no athletes have been sent to the Winter Olympics. Between 1952 and 1972, only the south of the then divided country took part under the name South Vietnam (IOC abbreviation VNM). In 1984 the socialist countries called for a boycott for the Los Angeles Games. Young athletes have been sent to both of the youth summer games held so far.
