Young athletes took part in both of the youth summer games that have been held so far.

Summer games

1948 to 1968

In 1948 the first Pakistani Olympic team competed in London. The 35 athletes participated in track and field, hockey, boxing, weightlifting, swimming and cycling. On July 30, 1948, the athletes Sharif Butt and Mohsin Nazar Khan became the first Pakistani Olympians to compete. When a Pakistani hockey team participated in an Olympic tournament for the first time, the team reached the semi-finals after four wins in four preliminary round games. Here they lost 2-0 to the United Kingdom. The bronze match against the Netherlands was lost 2-1.

In 1952 in Helsinki, Pakistani shooters took part for the first time. The hockey tournament was played entirely in the knockout system. Pakistan had a bye in the round of 16 and defeated France 6-0 in the quarter-finals. In the semifinals they met the Netherlands and lost 1-0. The bronze match, this time against the United Kingdom, was also lost 2-1.

1956 in Melbourne, the hockey team ensured the first Pakistani medal win. This time the tournament started again with a group round. Pakistan finished first in the group with two wins and one draw. Against the German team there was a 0-0. The semi-final against the United Kingdom was won 3-2. In the final it was against arch rivals India. Pakistan lost 1-0 but won the silver medal. Pakistani wrestlers started in Melbourne for the first time.

In Rome 1960 the first Olympic victory and the first medal win of an individual athlete succeeded. Freestyle wrestler Muhammad Bashir won the bronze medal in the welterweight division. The hockey team won all of their preliminary round matches and met Germany in the quarter-finals, which they defeated 2-1. In the semifinals against Spain, the team achieved a 1-0 victory. In the final there was a new edition of the Melbourne final. Opponent India was defeated 1-0, making the hockey team the first Pakistani Olympic champion.

The hockey team was able to win all of their six preliminary round games in 1964. The semi-final against Spain was won 3-0. The final was against India for the third time in a row. This time the Indians won 1-0. In 1968, too, Pakistan won all the preliminary round matches. In the semi-finals, the opponent was the Federal Republic of Germany. Pakistan won the game 1-0 after extra time. In the final, Australia was beaten 2-1, making Pakistan Olympic champion for the second time.

1972 to 1992

In 1972 the Pakistani hockey team and their supporters caused a scandal at the final award ceremony. Pakistan had won five out of seven games in the preliminary round, only losing 1: 2 against the team from the Federal Republic of Germany. The semi-final against India could be won 2-0. In the final they met Germany again, which won the final 1-0. After the game, German players and spectators were bullied by Pakistani players who had previously demolished the dressing room and their fans. At the award ceremony, the players refused to have the medals worn. One of the players, striker Shahnaz Sheikh, took off one of his shoes and tied the medal to the shoe. When the German anthem was played, the Pakistanis turned their backs on the flag. The IOC subsequently excluded the players from the Olympic Games for life. The ban was only lifted after President Zulfikar Ali Bhutto apologized to the German government.

In 1976 in Montreal, Pakistan won three of four preliminary round games. The Federal Republic of Germany was defeated 4-2. The semi-final against Australia was lost 2-1, the bronze game against the Netherlands won 3-2. In 1984 in Los Angeles, the team became Olympic champions. As runners-up in the group you played the semi-finals against Australia. With a 1-0 win they qualified for the final. As in 1972, the opponent was the Federal Republic of Germany. The Pakistanis got their revenge with a 2-1 after extra time. Pakistani sailors took part for the first time in Los Angeles.

In 1988 it was enough for the hockey team after 3rd place in the preliminary round only for the placement round. With victories over the Soviet Union and India one reached place 5. A bronze medal, the second individual medal ever, won the boxer Hussain Shah Syed in the middleweight division. For the first time a Pakistani table tennis player started. In 1992 the hockey team won bronze. The preliminary round games were all won. In the semifinals they lost 2-1 after extra time against Germany. The bronze match against the Netherlands was won 4-2. This bronze medal was Pakistan's last medal win to date.

1996 until today

Since 1996, Pakistan has been unsuccessful at the Olympic Games. At this and all subsequent Summer Games, Pakistan was the most populous country without a medal. On August 1, 1996, the long jumper Shabana Akhtar became the first woman in Pakistan to take part in the Olympic Games. The hockey team was only fourth in the preliminary round. They lost 3-1 to Germany. After the placement round, the team finished 6th.

In Sydney in 2000, Pakistani rowers took part for the first time. The hockey team came first in the group, u. a. after a 1-1 draw against Germany, into the semi-finals. Here they lost 1-0 to South Korea. The bronze game against Australia was also lost, this time there was a 3-6 defeat. In 2004 the team finished 3rd in the group. Before that, they lost 2-1 to Germany. Two wins in the placement round over India and New Zealand meant fifth place. In 2008, only two group wins were achieved. With place 4 you only reached the game for place 7, which you lost with 2: 4 against Pakistan.

A similar picture presented itself in 2012. Again the hockey team only reached 4th place in the preliminary group. This time the game for 7th place against South Korea could be won 3-2. For the first time, no team was able to qualify for the 2016 tournament. A Pakistani judoka took part for the first time in Rio de Janeiro.

An alpine ski racer formed the first Pakistani Olympic team at the 2010 Winter Games. Muhammad Abbas was Pakistan's first Winter Olympian on February 23, 2010. In 2018, a cross-country skier started for the first time.

Nineteen teenagers, 18 boys and one girl, competed in hockey, weightlifting, swimming and taekwondo at the first 2010 Summer Youth Olympic Games in Singapore. The boys' hockey team won the silver medal after losing 2-1 in the final to Australia.

In the Summer Youth Olympic Games 2014 in Nanjing 12 young people took part, eleven boys and a girl. The athletes competed in the sports of hockey, shooting, swimming, and weightlifting. No medals were won. The boys' hockey team defeated the German team 6-2 in the preliminary round, then later eliminated in the quarter-finals against Canada.
