Pakistan Olympic Association

The Pakistan Olympic Association ( Urdu : پاکستان اولمپک ایسوسی ایشن, acronym : POA) is the National Olympic Committee of Pakistan. The committee was founded by Muhammad Ali Jinnah in 1948. with the aim of enabling the newly founded state of Pakistan to actively participate in the Olympics. The first president was Ahmed E. H. Jaffar. The task of the committee is to promote Olympic sport and provide a delegation to the Olympic Games . The National Olympic Committee is the point of contact for the International Olympic Committee and the oldest sports association in Pakistan. The IOC was recognized in the year it was founded. The Pakistan Olympic Association is based in the Olympic House in Lahore .

history

After the partition of India , the idea of ​​professionalising sport in Pakistan quickly arose. This was achieved with the establishment of the National Olympic Committee in Pakistan in 1948. The Pakistan Olympics Association was responsible for all sport in Pakistan until the Pakistan Sports Board was founded in 1962. The committee is also a member of the Association of National Olympic Committees and the Olympic Council of Asia . Some members of the Pakistan Olympic Association also have management duties at the IOC.

Role and mission of the committee

The task of the committee is to promote sport in Pakistan and therefore it works with national sports federations. The organization and provision of a team for the Commonwealth Games and the organization of the annual national sports games also fall within the remit of the committee. The mission of the committee is to develop and protect the Olympic movement in Pakistan. This should be done in accordance with the Olympic Charter. The committee can only fulfill its mission if it works together with non-governmental organizations and international organizations .

National Olympic Associations

The committee controls its membership through the Affiliation and Constitution Committee (ACC), which consists of the national sports federations and POA officials from each province. The following national Olympic associations are associated with the POA:
