Sigmund Gustav Adolf von Gemmingen

Sigmund Gustav Adolf von Gemmingen (born November 20, 1839 in Bonfeld , † 1918 ) was court marshal of Baden .

He was a son of Eduard Friedrich Ludwig von Gemmingen (1807–1846) and Luise von Gemmingen-Hornberg (1812–1849). After the early death of his parents, he and his brother Karl Sigmund Raimund (1838–1880) were taken into the care of their uncle Franz Karl von Gemmingen- Hornberg (1806–1867). He attended high school in Mannheim and entered 1858 in Padua as a cadet in the Imperial Hussars Emperor Franz Josef No. 1 a. He rose to lieutenant and took part in the Battle of Solferino in 1859 and in the Battle of Custozza in 1866 . For his work at Custozza he received the Military Merit Cross. In 1869 he came to the Hussar Regiment Prince Franz Liechtenstein No. 9, where he was promoted to Rittmeister. In 1872 he resigned from the military and joined the Baden court service. He became chamberlain and later court marshal in Karlsruhe. He and his wife were buried in the Baronenviertel of the Bonfeld cemetery .

family

In 1876 he married Anna Friederike Johanna von Edelsheim (1852–1926). He belonged to the 1st branch ( Bonfeld Oberschlos ) of the 2nd branch (Bonfeld-Guttenberg) of the 2nd line Gemmingen-Guttenberg of the barons of Gemmingen . The family branch died out with his childless son Hans († 1940).
