Aruba , whose NOK ( Comité Olímpico Arubano ) was founded in 1985 andrecognizedby the IOC the following year, has participated in the Summer Olympics since 1988. The Dutch state on the Caribbean island has not yet participated in the winter games. Athletes from Aruba have not yet won any medals.

Invasion of Nations 2016

Between 1952 and 1984 athletes from the island could compete as team members of the Netherlands Antilles . When Aruba's status was changed in 1986 (since then Aruba has been a country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands), a separate NOK could be established.

Aruba's debut at the Olympic Games took place in Seoul in 1988. A team of eight competed in athletics, boxing, fencing, judo and swimming (synchronized swimming). Aruba's first Olympian was the boxer Hubert Wester, who took up the light welterweight division on September 19, 1988. The first woman was Lia Melis in a marathon on September 23, 1988.

Cycling and sailing were added in Barcelona in 1992, weightlifting in Atlanta in 1996 and Taekwondo in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. There was no success for the participants.

IOC member

Former synchronized swimmer Nicole Hoevertsz , who competed in Los Angeles in 1984 for the Netherlands Antilles and has been Secretary General of the Aruban NOK since 1998, became a member of the IOC in 2006.
