The Republic of the Congo , whose NOK , the Comité National Olympique et Sportif Congolais , was founded in 1964 and recognized by the IOC in the same year , has participated in the Summer Olympic Games since 1964. In 1968 and 1976 they did not participate. No athlete in the country has yet participated in the winter games. So far no medal could be won.

Overview

The Olympic history of the Republic of the Congo began with two athletes at the Tokyo Games in 1964 . The first Olympian in his country was the 100-meter runner Léon Yombe on October 14, 1964. In 1968 in Mexico City none of the country's athletes took part. The Republic of the Congo was not represented again until 1972 in Munich , again exclusively with athletes. The country followed the call to boycott African countries and stayed away from the 1976 Montreal Games .

In 1980 in Moscow a handball team took part for the first time. The members of this women's team were the first women in the country to participate in the Olympic Games. Boxers were also sent for the first time. The first individual athlete in the country was the sprinter Françoise M'Pika on August 4, 1984 in Los Angeles . In Los Angeles, judoka of the Republic of the Congo competed for the first time.

Participation in Seoul in 1988 only with track and field athletes was just as unsuccessful as participation in the 1992 Barcelona Games , in which a swimmer also took part for the first time. Until the 2008 Beijing Games , no participant could qualify for another round in his sport. In 2004 in Athens a fencer took part for the first time, in Beijing four years later two table tennis players.

Only in London 2012 were two athletes able to qualify for another round in the sprint disciplines. In Rio de Janeiro 2016 , the shot putter Franck Elemba qualified for the final. There he took a surprising fourth place. He missed the bronze rank by only 16 centimeters.
