Participation in winter games

Due to its climatic conditions, winter sports are not very common in Portugal. This is the reason for the country's irregular participation with comparatively few athletes in the Winter Olympics. Portuguese winter athletes competed for the first time in Oslo in 1952 , then in Calgary in 1988 , Albertville in 1992 , Lillehammer in 1994 , Nagano in 1998 , Turin in 2006 , Vancouver in 2010 and in Sochi in 2014 . So far there has been no Portuguese medal win.
