Arnold & Porter LLP is a US corporate law firm based in Washington, DC. It advises and represents national and multinational companies, financial institutions and governments.

history

The company was founded in 1946 by Thurman Arnold and Abe Fortas in Washington, DC. In 1947, the two professors at Yale University accepted Paul A. Porter as their named partner, who headed the Federal Communications Commission from 1944 to 1946 . After Lyndon B. Johnson named Fortas a US Supreme Court Justice in 1965 , the company was given its current name. At the national level, the firm has achieved notoriety through the handling of numerous criminal and civil cases before the Supreme Court. For example, in the Gideon v.
