Portugal took part in the 1952 Summer Olympics in the Finnish capital Helsinki with 71athletes nominatedby the Comité Olímpico de Portugal , 3 women and 68 men, in 45 competitions in 10 sports.

It was the eighth time a Portuguese team had taken part in the Summer Olympics since 1912 . The youngest participant was the 19-year-old rower José Pinheiro , the oldest participant was the 48-year-old sailor Francisco Uva .

Flag bearer

Water polo player Máximo Couto carried the flag of Portugal during the opening ceremony in the Olympic Stadium .

Medalist

With a bronze medal won the Portuguese team was ranked No. 40 in the medal count .
