Mário Gentil Quina (born January 1, 1930 in Estoril ; † September 8, 2017 ) was a Portuguese sailor .

successes

Mário Quina took part in the Olympic Games four times . In his Olympic debut in Melbourne in 1952 in the Finn dinghy , he finished the regatta in 17th place. Eight years later he started in Rome , when Quina was the flag bearer of the Portuguese delegation at the opening ceremony , at the side of his brother José Manuel Quina in the star boat and won the silver medal with him. With 6665 points, they came second behind the Soviet Olympic champions Timir Pinegin and Fyodor Schutkow . At the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City , however, they did not get beyond 17th place in the star boat. In 1972 , Mário Quina was the skipper of the Portuguese boat in the dragon , whose crew consisted of his brother Francisco Quina and Fernando Lima Bello . With 120 points they finished the regatta in the Olympic Center Schilksee in 21st place.

In 2015 he was honored as a Grand Officer of the Order of Infante Dom Henrique .
