Fernando Lima Bello

Fernando Lima Bello (born November 27, 1931 in Lisbon ) is a Portuguese sports official and former sailing enthusiast and engineer.

General

Fernando Lima Bello studied at the University of Lisbon , where he obtained his engineering degree. He then worked as the general manager of a road construction company. For the Portuguese Ministry of Labor, he headed the construction department.

Athletic career

Bello was a sailing enthusiast. In 1953 he became world champion in the Snipe class as a crew member of the Vela Atlantico team . In the star class , he was runner-up in Europe.

At the 1968 Summer Olympics , he started in the kite class . His boat was 17th out of 23 participants. Four years later, at the Olympic sailing regattas off Kiel , his boat was 21st out of 23 participants.

Sports administration

Fernando Lima Bello held various positions in sailing organizations. He was chairman of the Portuguese Sailing Federation and a member of the International Sailing Federation . He was chairman of the jury at world championships in the classes Finn , 420 dinghy and Cadet . He has been a member of the Portuguese NOK since 1975 and chaired it from 1981 to 1989. At the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow , he was Chef de Mission of the Portuguese Olympic team.

IOC membership

In 1989 Fernando Lima Bello was elected an IOC member. In 2010 his membership ended for reasons of age and he has been an honorary member ever since.
