Date: July 25-26, 1952

With Bob Mathias the favorite won the decathlon. From the third exercise on, the shot put , Mathias took the lead and never gave it up. The two other Americans, Milton Campbell and Floyd Simmons, were also in second and third place from then on. Nothing changed in this order until the end. After five disciplines, Mathias had already collected 4,367 points and, with his outstanding performance, laid the foundation not only for another Olympic victory, but also for a new world record , which by far exceeded the previous record.

Bob Mathias was the first decathlete to repeat his Olympic victory.

For a better classification of the performance, in addition to the official points according to the rating table from 1952, the number of points converted according to the current rating system from 1985 is also given. According to this table, which is valid today, there would have been a different order in some places. But these comparisons are only indicative, because the different standards of the time must apply as a basis.
