The men's high jump at the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki was held on July 20, 1952. 36 athletes took part in the first athletics decision of this Summer Olympic Games.

The American Walt Davis became Olympic champion . He won ahead of his compatriot Ken Wiesner and the Brazilian José Telles da Conceição .

Conducting the competition

The top favorites were the two US jumpers Walt Davis and Ken Wiesner, who jumped in the straddle technique . Both crossed all heights up to 2.01 m in the first attempt, except the 1.70 m, which both left out. Davis also managed 2.04 m in the first attempt, while Wiesner failed at this height. The 2.07 m was then too high for Davis. Third place went to the Brazilian José Telles da Conceição with a jump of 1.98 m.

José Telles da Conceição won the first high jump medal for Brazil.
