Hércules Azcune

Hércules Azcune , also out in the spelling Hércules Ascune , (born August 30, 1928 , † September 30, 2004 ) was a Uruguayan athlete .

Career

Azcune, who apparently started for Club Atlético Defensor , was active in the disciplines of decathlon , high jump , long jump , discus throwing and in the running competitions on the sprint courses. At the South American Athletics Championships in Montevideo in 1945 , he won gold in the high jump and bronze in the 400-meter hurdles. He was a member of the Uruguayan squad at the 1948 Olympic Games in London . His record at the games shows 14th place in the high jump, 20th place in the decathlon and elimination in the heats with the 4-by-100-meter relay. At the South American Athletics Championships in Lima in 1949 , he was again South American champion in the high jump and won silver in the decathlon. He took part with the Uruguayan team in the 1951 Pan American Games in Buenos Aires . He also participated in the 1952 Olympic Games . There he took 32nd place in the qualification of the high jump competition in Helsinki .

In addition, he also achieved several podiums at unofficial South American championships. In 1946 he won the 400 meter hurdles competition, in 1948 and 1950 the high jump competitions and also in 1948 the discus throwing competition. There was also the bronze medal in the long jump in 1948 and in the decathlon in 1953.
