1949 South American Athletics Championships
The XVI. The South American Athletics Championships took place in Lima from April 16 to 24, 1949 . Three men won two titles: the Peruvian sprinter Gerardo Salazar , the Argentine long-distance runner Ricardo Bralo and the Argentine all-rounder Enrique Kistenmacher . In the women's competitions, the Brazilians Elizabeth Müller and Wanda dos Santos and the Argentine thrower Ingeborg Mello also won two titles. Müller also got two second places, Mello came third in the third throwing discipline.
Men's competitions
In the men's team, the team from Argentina won with 265.5 points, ahead of the Chileans with 135.5 points and the Brazilian team with 112 points. Behind them Peru got 88 points, Uruguay 70 points and Ecuador 6 points, Venezuela got no point.
