1926 South American Athletics Championships
The IV. South American Athletics Championships took place in Montevideo from April 15th to 20th . For the first time, the event returned to a city that had previously been the venue. The team championship won the team from Argentina with 86 points ahead of the team from Chile with 44 points and the Uruguayans with 8 points, the team from Peru remained without a medal. The most successful athletes were the Chilean long-distance runner Manuel Plaza and the Argentine all -rounder Valerio Vallanía , who each won four titles. Manuel Plaza had already won four titles in 1924 and was now the most successful athlete with eight titles.
