1919 South American Athletics Championships
The 1st South American Athletics Championships took place from April 11th to 13th, 1919 in Montevideo . Athletes from Chile and Uruguay took part. The team of Chile won the team with 67 points ahead of the Uruguay team with 45 points. The most successful athlete was the Chilean hurdler Julio Kilian , who won three competitions including the relay and took second place once.
The year before, a competition between athletes from Argentina, Chile and Uruguay took place in Buenos Aires , which is now known as the unofficial South American Championships. The only athlete who was able to win the same competition at the championships in 1919 as in 1918 was the Uruguayan Isabelino Gradín in the 400-meter run.
