South American Athletics Championships 1967

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The XXIV. South American Athletics Championships took place from October 7th to 15th, 1967 in Buenos Aires . The most successful participant was the Colombian sprinter Pedro Grajales with four gold medals. In the women's category , the Brazilian Silvina Pereira won three gold medals.

The 1967 Pan American Games took place from July 23 to August 6. Nevertheless, the South American Championships were not held on the classic date in April or May, but in October. This meant that the training structure could largely correspond to what had to be planned for the 1968 Olympic Games , which were also scheduled for October .

Since the introduction of women's competitions in 1939 , the program for women had remained the same. Before the program was expanded in 1969, there was an 800-meter run for women in 1967, which was not part of the official ranking. The Chilean Carmen Oyé won ahead of the Argentinean Alicia Enríquez .

Men's competitions

The men's team championship was won by Argentina with 167 points, followed by the Brazilians with 142 points and the Colombians with 129 points. Behind the Chileans with 88.5 points, the Peruvians achieved 46 points, followed by Uruguay with 45 points and Ecuador with 23 points.
