1956 South American Athletics Championships

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The XIX. The South American Athletics Championships took place from April 14 to 22, 1956 in Santiago de Chile . The most successful participants were the Colombian sprinter Jaime Aparicio and the Argentinian long-distance runner Osvaldo Suárez with three titles each, with Aparicio also winning a silver medal. In the women's category , Gladys Erbetta also won three gold medals and one silver medal.

The time at the end of April was very unfavorable for athletes with ambitions at the Olympic Games, as the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne did not take place until the end of November. Of the two South American medal winners at the Olympic Games, only Marlene Ahrens took part in the 1956 South American Championships, Adhemar Ferreira da Silva was not at the start.

Men's competitions
