Carlos Vera (athlete)

Carlos Vera Guardia (born August 30, 1928 ) is a former Chilean long jumper , triple jumper and decathlete .

At the Athletics South American Championships in Rio de Janeiro in 1947 , he won silver in the triple jump. In 1948 he retired from qualifying at the triple jump of the Olympic Games in London .

In 1949 he won silver in the long jump at the South American Championships in Lima , and in 1951 he was fourth in the same discipline at the Pan American Games in Buenos Aires .

In 1952 he won silver in the long jump and bronze in the decathlon at the South American Championships in Buenos Aires . At the Olympic Games in Helsinki he did not get past the first round in the long jump and gave up in the decathlon after the fourth discipline.

At the Pan American Games in Mexico City in 1955 , he was fourth in the long and triple jump and fifth in the decathlon.

In 1956 he won bronze in the triple jump at the South American Championships in Santiago , and in 1959 he was eighth in the long jump at the Pan American Games in Chicago .
