Fermín Donazar

Fermín Donazar , full name Fermín Walter Donazar Zabalza , (born January 11, 1933 in Montevideo ) is a former Uruguayan athlete .

Career

The 1.73 meter tall Donazar was active in the long jump and triple jump disciplines. He took part with the Uruguayan team in the 1951 Pan American Games in Buenos Aires . He was also a member of the squad for the 1955 Pan American Games . At the Games in Mexico City , he finished seventh in the triple jump. He finished eighth in the long jump. He set a new Uruguayan record in the triple jump with 14.34 meters , which Julio Bastón (14.19 meters) had held since 1936 .

In 1954 , 1956 and 1958 he was each South American champion in the long jump. Aided by the wind, he won the first title with a width of 7.51 meters. This jump is therefore not to be used as a career best. He won bronze at the South American Athletics Championships in 1961 .

He was a member of the Uruguayan squad at the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne . In the competition he qualified for the final with a jump of 7.31 meters. This distance remained his career best. In the final he only managed one valid attempt with a distance of 6.57 meters. With that he reached the 12th place in the final bill. Four years later he failed as 23rd in qualifying for the long jump competition at the 1960 Olympic Games .
