1983 South American Athletics Championships

The XXXII. The South American Athletics Championships were held from September 29 to October 2, 1983 in Santa Fe , Argentina . The most successful participant was the Brazilian sprinter Paulo Correia with three gold medals and one silver medal. For women, Elba Barbosa from Brazil won three gold medals.

Men's competitions

The men's team championship was won by the Brazilian team with 259 points, ahead of the Chileans with 159 points and the Argentina team with 143 points and the Colombians with 55 54 points. Behind Uruguay with 22 points, the Peruvians achieved 15 points, Paraguay 8 points, Bolivia and Ecuador 6 points each and Venezuela 3 points.
