Esmeralda de Jesus Garcia
Esmeralda de Jesus Garcia ( Esmeralda de Jesus Freitas Garcia Silami; born February 16, 1959 in Sete Lagoas ) is a former Brazilian sprinter , long and triple jumper .
In the 1976 Olympics she reached over 100 m the Viertelfinale.1979 she won at the South American Championships in Athletics in Bucaramanga each bronze than 100 m and 200 m . In 1983 she was eliminated from the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki over 100 m in the quarter-finals and in the long jump in qualification. At the Pan American Games in Caracas , she triumphed over 100 m and was sixth in the long jump. At the South American Championships in Santa Fe , she won over 100 m and in the long jump and at the Ibero-American Championships over 100 m. At the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, she came back to the quarter-finals over 100 m and was eliminated in the long jump in the preliminary round. Starting for Florida State University , she became NCAA triple jump champion and gymnastics champion in 1985 . The following year, she set an unofficial world record in this discipline with 13.68 m.
