Lelia Spuhr (born January 16, 1924 in Villa Ballester, Buenos Aires , † 2006 Buenos Aires) was an Argentine athlete of German origin.

life and career

Spuhr, who was a member of the Club River Plate in Buenos Aires and completed her first competitions at the age of 13, was awarded with the XI. The South American Athletics Championships from May 25 to 28, 1939 in Lima, the most successful female athlete with two gold medals (200-meter run and 4-time 100-meter relay run), a silver medal (100-meter run) and a bronze medal (High jump). For the first time, nine disciplines for women were held at these championships.

At the XII. At the 1941 South American Athletics Championships in Buenos Aires, she was able to expand her success. She won four gold medals (100-meter, 200-meter and 4-time 100-meter run and high jump), making her the most successful athlete in this championship.

In 1943, 1945 and 1947 Spuhr did not take part in the championships. Only in 1949 with the XVI. She was able to win a silver medal again at the South American Athletics Championships. In the high jump she only had to admit defeat to Elizabeth Müller from Brazil .

Lelia Spuhr worked as a fashion designer after her career as a track and field athlete. She had a daughter.
