Manuel Jesús Plaza Reyes (March 17, 1900 , † February 9, 1969 ) was a Chilean marathon runner and Olympic runner -up.

Manuel Plaza won the silver and bronze medals at the South American Athletics Championships in 1920 over the 10,000 and 5,000 meter distances.

He finished sixth in the marathon at the 1924 Olympic Games in 2:52:54 h. At the 1928 Games in Amsterdam he ran in the field for a long time until he was able to overtake the top a few kilometers from the finish with the Algerian Boughera El-Ouafi, who started for France . With 2:33:23 h he was only 26 seconds behind the El-Ouafi and won the silver medal.

Manuel Plaza won the first ever Olympic medal for Chile. Along with javelin thrower Marlene Ahrens , who won silver in 1956, he is Chile's only medalist in the history of Olympic athletics. The first gold medal for Chile, which Plaza narrowly missed, was won by tennis players Nicolás Massú and Fernando González in doubles in 2004 .
