Valerio Vallanía

Valerio Ángel Vallanía (born July 14, 1906 in Córdoba , † October 8, 1998 ibid) was an Argentine athlete and ten-time South American champion.

In April 1924, the 1.76 meter tall Vallanía won the South American Championships in Buenos Aires with 1.80 meters in the high jump . At the South American Championships in Montevideo in 1926, Vallanía won four disciplines. In the 110-meter hurdles he ran 15.6 seconds, he jumped 1.85 meters in the high jump, in the long jump he reached 6.75 meters and in the end he won the decathlon. The following year he won gold in the hurdles and high jump at the South American Championships in Santiago de Chile in 1927, and in the long jump he received the bronze medal. At the Olympic Games in 1928 Vallanía retired in both the 110-meter hurdles and the high jump in qualification. In 1929 in Lima he managed his third victory over the hurdles in 15.3 seconds, his fastest time ever. In 1931 in Buenos Aires he won again bronze in the hurdles; in the high jump he received gold for the fifth time in a row. Vallanía jumped its best height of 1.91 meters in 1932.
