Karsten Brodersen
Karsten Brodersen (born June 24, 1907 in North Friesland ; † December 2001 ) was a German - Chilean discus thrower , decathlete and shot putter .
In 1935 he came to the German School in Valparaíso as a teacher of German, mathematics and sports .
At the Athletics South American Championships in Lima in 1939 he won silver in the shot put and discus throw and bronze in the decathlon. In 1941 in Buenos Aires he again won silver in the discus throw and bronze in the decathlon.
In 1947 in Rio de Janeiro he was South American champion in the discus throw, and in 1949 in Lima he won his third silver medal in the same discipline.
At the Pan American Games in Buenos Aires in 1951 , he was seventh in the discus throw.
In 1969 he founded a sports festival for German-speaking schools in Chile, which has been named after him since 1979. He returned to Germany in the 1970s. In 1986 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st class .
