Estrella Puente

Estrella Puente (born December 22, 1928 as Estrella Puente Buceta in Montevideo ) is a former Uruguayan athlete and tennis player .

The 1.62 meter tall athlete competed in athletics in the javelin throw . Her personal career best she set on February 18, 1951 in Montevideo with a width of 42.79 meters. For a while it held the South American record. She won the 1949 South American Athletics Championships in Lima . In 1952 she won bronze at the South American Championships in Buenos Aires and was tenth at the Olympic Games in Helsinki , where she was the flag bearer of the Uruguayan team . In 1955 she won silver at the Pan American Games in Mexico City with 43.43 meters and a personal best .

Puente was also successful as a tennis player. Between 1954 and 1959 she won the Uruguayan singles championship six times in a row.
