Laila Ferrer de Silva (born July 30, 1982 in Pacatuba ) is a Brazilian javelin thrower .
Athletic career
Laila Ferrer de Silva gained her first international experience in 2011 at the South American Championships in Buenos Aires , where she took fourth place with a width of 53.67 m. She then took part in the Pan American Games in Guadalajara for the first time and came in 15th with 46.43 m. The following year, she won the bronze medal behind Colombian Flor at the Ibero-American Championships in Barquisimeto with a throw of 57.14 m Ruíz and Leryn Franco from Paraguay. She then took part in the Olympic Games in London , but was eliminated there with 58.39 m in qualification . In 2013 she won the silver medal at the South American Championships in Cartagena with 58.80 m and only had to admit defeat to the Colombian Ruiz. In 2014 she took part in the South American Games in Santiago de Chile for the first time and won the bronze medal there with 57.11 m behind Ruiz and her compatriot Jucilene de Lima . She then won the silver medal behind de Lima at the Ibero-American Championships in São Paulo with 58.12 m. In 2015 she took part again in the Pan American Games in Toronto and was fourth there with 58.19 m, while in 2016 she won the silver medal behind Ruiz at the Ibero-American Championships in Rio de Janeiro with 60.44 m.
In 2017 she also secured the silver medal at the South American Championships in Luque with 58.50 m and had to admit defeat to Ruiz again. She also started at the World Championships in London, but was eliminated there with 60.54 m in qualification . In the following year she won the South American Games in Cochabamba with 60.25 m and won the bronze medal at the Ibero-American Championships in Trujillo with 58.24 m behind the Colombian María Lucelly Murillo and Arantza Moreno from Spain. In 2019, she won the South American Championships in Lima with 57.79 m and took fifth place at the Pan American Games there with a width of 59.15 m. By winning the Continental Championships de Silva received a bye for the World Championships in Doha , where she was eliminated again with 55.49 m in qualification . She then won the silver medal behind Chinese Zhang Li at the World Military Games in Wuhan with 56.02 m .
From 2017 to 2019 de Silva was the Brazilian javelin champion.
