Sabina Moya Rivas (born January 27, 1977 in Turbo ) is a former Colombian javelin thrower .

Athletic career

Sabina Moya gained her first international experience in 1992 at the Youth South American Championships in Santiago de Chile , where she won the silver medal in the javelin throw with a width of 42.40 m and came in sixth place in the discus throw with 36.74 m. Two years later she was eliminated from the Junior World Championships in Lisbon with 36.78 m in qualification before she came in tenth place at the Junior World Championships in Sydney in 1996 with 50.40 m. In 1997 she won the Ibero-American Championships in San Juan with a throw of 55.94 m, the bronze medal behind the Cuban Osleidys Menéndez and Laverne Eve from the Bahamas. Then she won the silver medal behind her compatriot Zuleima Araméndiz at the South American Championships in Mar del Plata with 55.30 m . She also won the silver medal at the Juegos Bolivarianos in Arequipa with 49.94 m and had to admit defeat to Araméndiz again. In 1998 she won the Ibero-American Championships in Lisbon with 58.65 m and then at the South American Games in Cuenca with 54.08 m. The following year she won the South American Championships in Bogotá for the first time with 58.81 m and qualified for the World Championships in Valencia , where she did not reach the final with 47.27 m.

In 2000, Moya was fourth at the Ibero-American Championships in Rio de Janeiro with a width of 55.16 m, but was still able to participate in the Olympic Games in Sydney, where she was eliminated with 49.16 m in qualification . The following year she won the Juegos Bolivarianos in Ambato with 55.58 m and in 2002 she won the Ibero-American Championships in Guatemala City with 62.62 m. She then won the silver medal behind her compatriot Araméndiz at the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador with 55.73 m. In 2003 she won again with 58.30 m at the South American Championships in Barquisimeto and then took part for the first time in the Pan American Games in Santo Domingo , where she came fourth with 60.17 m. She also took part again in the World Championships in Paris , where she was eliminated again in the qualification with 55.75 m. The following year she finished sixth at the Ibero-American Championships in Huelva with 54.17 m and in 2006 she won the bronze medal at the South American Championships in Tunja with 54.52 m behind Brazilian Alessandra Resende and compatriot Araméndiz. In the following two years she only played a few competitions and finally ended her career as a professional athlete in 2008 at the age of 31.

In 2003 Moya became the Colombian javelin champion.
