Laverne Eve

Laverne Eve (born June 16, 1965 in Nassau ) is a Bahamian javelin thrower .

Career

At the beginning of her career, she was also active as a shot put and discus thrower . At the Central American and Caribbean Championships, she won bronze in the shot put and discus throw in 1981, silver in the shot put in 1983 and bronze in the shot put in 1985.

Then she concentrated on throwing the javelin. In 1987 she was starting NCAA champion for Louisiana State University and fifth at the Pan American Games in Indianapolis , but failed at the World Athletics Championships in Rome in the qualification without a valid attempt. Even at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, she did not get past the first round.

In 1989 she was US champion, in 1989 and 1991 Central America and Caribbean champion. At the Pan American Games in Havana in 1991 , she was fourth, at the 1991 World Cup in Tokyo and at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, ​​she was eliminated from the qualification. She won bronze in the shot put at the 1993 Central American and Caribbean Games and seventh at the 1994 Victoria Commonwealth Games . A silver medal at the 1995 Pan American Games in Mar del Plata was followed by a qualifying round at the 1995 World Cup in Gothenburg and at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.

In 1997 she won silver at the Central American and Caribbean Championships, but again did not get past the first round at the World Cup in Seville . In 1998 she won bronze at the Central American and Caribbean Games. The following year she won her third title at the Central American and Caribbean Championships and won bronze at the 1999 Pan American Games in Winnipeg. At the 1999 World Cup in Seville and the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, she failed again in qualification, as well as at the 2001 World Cup in Edmonton, to which she went after her fourth title win at the Central American and Caribbean Championships.

In 2002 she won the Commonwealth Games in Manchester . The following year, she defended her title at the Central American and Caribbean Championships, won silver at the 2003 Pan American Games in Santo Domingo and finished eighth at the World Championships in Paris / Saint-Denis .

At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, she finally made it to the finals with a sixth place. In 2005 she won again at the Central American and Caribbean Championships and was tenth at the World Championships in Helsinki , and in 2006 she won bronze at the Central American and Caribbean Games and silver at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne . In 2007, a bronze medal at the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro was followed by her ninth World Cup participation at the World Championships in Osaka , in which, however, she was just as unable to qualify for the finals as at the 2008 Olympic Games in Athens. At the Central American and Caribbean Championships she won gold again in 2008 and bronze in 2009.
