The men's pentathlon at the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris took place on July 7, 1924. 30 athletes took part in the last Olympic hosting of this discipline.

As at the last Olympic Games, the Finn Eero Lehtonen was the Olympic champion . The silver medal went to the Hungarian Elemér Somfay , the bronze went to the US athlete Robert LeGendre .

Conducting the competition

All 30 starters competed in the first three disciplines ( long jump , javelin throw and 200-meter run ). The order resulted from the addition of the placements achieved in the individual disciplines. After three competitions, only the twelve best athletes qualified for the following discus throw . The points of the remaining athletes have now been recalculated by only taking into account the placements of these top twelve from the three disciplines already completed. Only the six best athletes then competed in the final 1500 meter run .

The Finn Eero Lehtonen, who had already won this competition in 1920 , was also successful this time. He won the gold medal in front of the Hungarian Elemér Somfay and the American Robert LeGendre. The bronze medalist LeGendre managed the feat of setting a new world record in the long jump with 7.77 m . LeGendre did not qualify for participation in the long jump competition that took place a day later.

If the results are calculated using the decathlon table that applies today, LeGendre would have won the competition.
