Brutus Kerr Hamilton (born July 19, 1900 in Peculiar , Missouri , † December 28, 1970 in Berkeley , California ) was an American athlete who specialized in the decathlon . The 1.83 m tall and 80 kg athlete started for the Kansas City Athletic Club .

Hamilton won the US decathlon championship in 1920. The following year he was third in the javelin throw (52.56 m). His personal best is 54.73 m, achieved on April 15, 1922 in Berkeley.

He also took part in two Olympic Games: 1920 in Antwerp and 1924 in Paris .

  • In Antwerp he started in the decathlon and pentathlon.
  • In Paris he only started in the pentathlon, which he had to finish after four exercises. Only the best six of the overall standings were qualified for the final 1500 m run, which he did not belong to after a moderate 24.4 s over 200 m.

After finishing his sporting career, he first worked as a teacher for sports, English and history at Westminster College in Fullton . He then became a coach, from 1930 to 1932 at the University of Kansas , where Glenn Cunningham and Jim Bausch were among his protégés, and from 1932 to 1965 at the University of California at Berkeley . During this time he was national coach and supervisor for US Olympic teams on several occasions.
