This time there was only one competition for the walkers . Here in Paris , too , the competition was held on the track again. And again Ugo Frigerio was the outstanding athlete in the field. He won the gold medal more than fifty seconds ahead of Gordon Goodwin and Cecil McMaster. George Goulding's Olympic record remained untouched, however. The Canadian was more than 2:50 minutes faster in 1912 . Four years after the Paris Games, walking was temporarily taken out of the Olympic program entirely, before another competition was held in 1932 , which was held in Los Angeles over the distance of fifty kilometers. Ugo Frigerio was there again and won the bronze medal.
Cecil McMaster won the first South African medal in Olympic walking here in Paris.
