Dieter Fischdick

Dieter Fischdick (born September 12, 1938 in Duisburg ; † October 10, 1996 there ) was a German local politician and football official . From 1988 until his death he was President of MSV Duisburg , which was able to return from the Oberliga to the Bundesliga under him. He also sat on the Duisburg city council for the SPD for twelve years.

Activity in local politics

Fischdick, who was born in the Duisburg district of Laar , worked as a full-time businessman and joined the SPD in 1965. He received his first mandate in 1975 when he was elected to represent the newly created district of Meiderich / Beeck . From 1978 he was also chairman of the local SPD branch in Laar, before two years later he became chairman of the parliamentary group in the district council.

In October 1984 he moved to the city council of Duisburg for the Laar district, which went hand in hand with his retirement from the district council. He belonged to various committees of the council, where he worked in the sports committee as spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group. He retained his position as councilor until his death in October 1996.

President of the MSV Duisburg

After the relegation of the former Bundesliga club to the then third-class league, Fischdick took over the office of vice president at MSV Duisburg in 1986. He quickly gained recognition at the economically and athletically troubled club through his work and was elected from deputy president at an annual general meeting in April 1988. At the same time began the economic consolidation of the club and in 1989 the return to the second division was made. The president was considered economical and, for example, did without a manager at the club. Instead, he did a lot of work himself and counted on the long-term success of the MSV. He was also involved in the design of the players' squad.

In 1991 they returned to the Bundesliga and even if they were relegated directly a year later, Fischdick and the two other members of the executive committee were so undisputed that they were unanimously re-elected on November 16, 1992 as the first time in the club's history. From 1993 to 1995 the club played again first class and at the end of the second division season 1995/96 the promotion was achieved again.

Planned retreat from MSV and death

Immediately after his promotion to the Bundesliga, he made a proposal in September 1996 according to which he would have become the first paid president of a Bundesliga club. The subsequent criticism of his person led shortly thereafter to his announcement that he would resign and, as a result, resign in November of the same year. On October 10, 1996, the current president suffered a heart attack at a press conference and died on the spot. The 58-year-old at the time of death left his wife and two daughters. His successor as head of the club was Hans Spick .
