Furtuna Velaj (born March 8, 1990 in Deçani , Yugoslavia , now Kosovo ) is an Albanian soccer player who grew up in the United States and who is under contract in the second-rate United Women's Soccer at New York Surf .

Life

Velaj was born in 1990 in Deçani in what is now Kosovo and grew up with her four siblings in neighboring Gllogjani . In the spring of 1998, she and her parents of Roman Catholic descent fled to the United States, where she grew up in Hamden , Connecticut . In Connecticut, she attended Westhill High School in Stamford for four years before attending Quinnipiac University from 2008 to 2010 , where she studied political science and journalism .

Velaj's sisters Linda and Aulona and the two brothers Simone and Nol were also active in football. Linda is an assistant trainer for the Blue Wave Kickers and the Varsity Team, the men (boys) of Darien High School . Aulona, ​​is a Westhill High School coach and has played soccer for Connecticut FC and the Texas A&M University women soccer team . Her brothers Simone and Nol played for Connecticut FC.

Velaj started her career with Connecticut FC and won the PDA and the Connecticut State Cup in 2007.
