In the final, four Americans faced a Finn and a Norwegian. In this final none of the starters could improve the distance achieved in the qualification.
The two Finnish Olympic champions of previous years Armas Taipale - 1912 - and Elmer Niklander - 1920 - were eliminated in the qualification. They no longer reached the level of their best times. But they had worthy followers. Gus Pope, on the other hand, bronze medalist in 1920, still came fourth. Bud Houser, whose full name was actually Lemuel Clarence Houser, set a new Olympic record with his Olympic discus throw at 46.155 m . He had already won gold in the shot put five days earlier, with Vilho Niittymaa and Thomas Lieb remaining just below the 45-meter mark in second and third.
