Duarte Manuel Pinto Coelho de Almeida Bello (born July 26, 1921 in Maputo , Mozambique , † July 3, 1994 in Estoril ) was a Portuguese sailor .

successes

Duarte Manuel Bello took part in the Olympic Games five times . In 1948 he started in London with his brother Fernando Bello in the boat class Swallow and finished the regatta in second place. Behind David Bond and Stewart Morris from Great Britain, the two brothers secured the silver medal with 5579 points. At the Olympic Games in Helsinki in 1952 and in Rome in 1960 he was helmsman of the Portuguese boat in the 5.5 meter class , while his brother Fernando was a crew member on both occasions. While in 1952 he just missed another medal win in fourth place, he did not get beyond 16th place in 1960. In between, he was also fourth in Melbourne in 1956 with José Silva in the Star boat class . In 1964 he finished eighth with Fernando in Tokyo in the star boat. In the star boat, the two brothers won the bronze and silver medal together at the World Championships in Cascais in 1952 and 1962. Bello also secured another silver medal in 1953 in Naples with João Miguel Tito .
