The Soviet Union took part in the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki with a delegation of 295 athletes (255 men and 40 women) in 141 competitions in 18 sports.

The Soviet athletes won 22 gold, 30 silver and 19 bronze medals, which put the Soviet Union in second place in the medal table. The most successful athlete was the gymnast Viktor Tschukarin , who won six medals and was four times Olympic champion . The standard bearer at the opening ceremony was weightlifter Jakow Kuzenko .
