Japan took part in the 1952 Summer Olympics in the Finnish capital Helsinki with 69 athletes, 11 women and 58 men, in 60 competitions in 13 sports.

It was the seventh time a Japanese team had taken part in the Summer Olympics since 1912 . The youngest athlete was the swimmer Shizue Miyabe (13 years and 358 days), the oldest athlete was the fencer Shinichi Maki (35 years and 128 days).

Flag bearer

The pole vaulter Bunkichi Sawada carried the flag of Japan during the opening ceremony in the Olympic Stadium .

Medalist

With a recovered gold, six silver and two bronze medals, the Japanese team was ranked 17 in the medal count .
