Nasser Givehchi ( Persian ناصر گيوه چی, Born November 12, 1935 in Tehran ; † May 15, 2017 ibid) was an Iranian freestyle wrestler and trainer. He was a participant in the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki and 1956 in Melbourne .

Life

At the age of 16 years and 252 days, Nasser Givehchi was the youngest athlete in this discipline at the Olympic Games in Helsinki. He competed in the featherweight (62 kg) weight class and only lost to Bayram Şit on points. Givehchi finished second in these games and thus won the silver medal. The 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne were less successful. Givehchi was only sixth in this tournament.

Even at the Wrestling World Championships in Tokyo in 1954 , he was unable to repeat his great success from Helsinki and ended up fifth in the World Cup.

Nasser Givehchi became a coach after his sports career. Between 1966 and 1967 he worked as an assistant coach for the Iranian national wrestling team.

Givehchi was the youngest Iranian medalist to date at the Summer Olympics.
