Cyril Martin

Cyril Martin (born October 31, 1918 in London , † June 10, 1983 ibid) was an English football player .

Career

The only 157 centimeter tall midfielder Martin played after the end of the Second World War in the jersey of the London district club FC Bromley , which competed in English amateur football. In 1947 he made the leap into professional football , which he achieved by moving to the French first division club Olympique Marseille . On August 24, 1947, the Briton made his debut in a 3-2 win against Toulouse FC in the top French division and was able to establish himself as a regular in the team in the following time.

Martin served the French club regularly as a goalscorer, where he came on ten goals in the course of the 1947/48 season, and was part of a team that could celebrate winning the national championship at the end of the 1947/48 season. Nevertheless, the professional decided after 26 first division games in France, the last of which he had contested on May 30, 1948 in a 2-2 draw against FC Sochaux , to return to his former English club from Bromley. For the then 29-year-old, this meant the end of his year-long professional career. He spent another year in the amateur field before quitting football in 1949.
