Joann Lõssov

Joann Lõssov ( Russian Иоанн Фёдорович Лысов ; born September 10, 1921 in Tallinn , Estonia ; † August 3, 2000 there ) was a Soviet basketball player and coach of Estonian origin.

Athletic performance

Joann Lõssov started playing basketball in 1936. From 1947 to 1952 he was captain and captain of the national basketball team of the USSR , with which he was European champion in 1947 and 1951 and for which he completed 106 games.

Joann Lõssov won the silver medal in the Soviet basketball team at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki . From 1951 to 1957 he was a member of the Soviet Olympic Committee . In addition, he was a player of Estonian champions in handball , ice hockey and Pesäpallo . With his team, the basketball team of Tartu State University , he was Soviet champion in 1949, Soviet runner-up in 1950 and third in 1945. From 1944 to 1953 Lõssov was coach of the Tallinn club Kalev and from 1953 to 1958 coach of the Soviet women's national team. From 1957 to 1966 Lõssov was a lecturer at the Tallinn Pedagogical University and from 1966 to 1991 at the Tallinn Technical University .
