Vladimir Vasilyevich Uchow

Wladimir Wassiljewitsch Uchow ( Russian Владимир Васильевич Ухов , English transcription Vladimir Vasilyevich Ukhov ; born January 21, 1924 in Petrograd , then Soviet Union ; † May 25, 1996 ) was a Soviet walker who became European champion in 1954.

Life

In the 50 km walk of the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki he was sixth in 4: 32: 51.6 hours, one and a half minutes behind third-placed Antal Róka from Hungary. One month later, on August 29, Uchow set a world record in Leningrad with 4:20:30 h and stayed almost three minutes below the old record of the Czechoslovak Josef Doležal .

In 1954 he won the European Championships in Bern in 4: 22: 11.2 hours with a three-minute lead over Doležal. In third place, Róka was already nine minutes behind.

Uchow set his best performance of 4:11:23 h in 1956, but could still not qualify for the 1956 Olympic Games .
