Josef Doležal

Josef Doležal (born December 12, 1920 in Příbram ; † January 28, 1999 in Prague ) was a Czech athlete who competed for Czechoslovakia from 1946 to 1960 . In walking he finished second in the Olympics and European champion. set ten world records and world best performances on different routes, from 5 miles (approx. 8 km) to 50 km.

Successes in detail

Doležal set ten world records and world best times in his career. In 1951 he walked 20,000 meters for 1:30:26 hours on the track. On the road, he improved the record for walking 20 km in 1956 to 1:30:00 hours and the record for walking 50 km in 1954 to 4:16:06 hours.

At the European Championships in 1946 Doležal was disqualified over 50 km. Four years later he finished fourth at the European Championships in 1950 over 50 km. Another four years later at the European Championships in 1954 he won the 10,000 meter walk and was second over 50 km behind Vladimir Uchow from the Soviet Union.

Josef Doležal competed in the Olympic Games in 1952 , 1956 and 1960 . In 1952 he was second behind Giuseppe Dordoni over 50 km . In 1956 he gave up both over 20 km and over 50 km. At the end of his career in 1960 he finished 17th over 50 km.

Josef Doležal had a competition weight of 66 kg with a height of 1.72 m.
