August Liessens

August Liessens (born August 17, 1894 in Ninove , Belgium ; † July 8, 1954 in Sorel , Québec , Canada ) was a Belgian-Canadian organist and composer . Various works of a religious and secular nature come from him. He is also the inventor of a mechanical musicographer who allows blind musicians to write notes.

Liessens studied at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels . At the request of the Catholic religious order Broeders van Liefde , the blind musician went to Canada in 1913 to give music lessons at the Mont Saint-Bernard school in Sorel. In 1916 he became organist at the Church of Our Lady in Sorel, and from 1929 until his death he was organist at the neighboring St. Peterskirche.

On August 28, 1953, Liessens was made an honorary citizen of his hometown.
