Valentin Ivanovich Muratov ( Russian Валенти́н Ива́нович Мура́тов ; born July 30, 1928 in Serpukhov ; † October 6, 2006 in Moscow ) was a successful Soviet gymnast.

Career

Muratov was a member of the Burewestnik Sports Association and was a member of the Soviet squad at the Helsinki Summer Olympics in 1952 . There he won the gold medal in the team all-around with his team. The world championships in apparatus gymnastics in the Italian capital Rome two years later were also very successful for him, as he was able to win a total of four medals. Because of these good performances, he was nominated again for the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 . Muratow was able to improve his previous achievements and won the gold medal in floor gymnastics as well as in the jump and in the team all-around competition and the silver medal in ring gymnastics, which made him one of the most successful athletes of the games.

Valentin Muratov was married to Sofia Ivanovna Muratova and died a few days after his wife.
